The truth about IBB's death rumour
SOURCE; http://theeagleonline.com.ng/im-ill-but-not-dead-bedridden-babangida/
Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has broken the silence to refute the rumours that he is bedridden or dead.
Babangida spoke with select newsmen on Sunday afternoon in his home in Minna, the Niger State capital.
He said: “It is true I have minimised my appearance at public functions because of my ill health, but not to the level of incapacitation as being widely circulated in some media.”
It was reported few days ago on the social media that Babangida was seriously ill and bedridden.
Some reports said he had passed on. According to Babangida: “For me, it doesn’t shock me neither bother me because I know I must go and meet God my Creator.
“There is nothing really to worry about, my religion has told me.
“Well, as a Muslim I strongly believe everybody will die.
“Everybody will die and everybody has to die.
“It could be now or in 100 years time or two days to come.
“But it doesn’t matter.
“Everybody must die.
“You can see me attending to people, after which we all go in for our lunch and have our prayers before I retire for my siesta.
“I am not incapacitated.
“Nobody is above sickness or death because nobody is above what God has destined.
“Everybody will fall sick or will die or either of their relations must die.”
Babangida added that the future of the country is bright and the dreams of Nigerians to actualize their independence was worthwhile.
He added: “I still believe very strongly in this country, which is further demonstrated by the people of these great nation because they are very industrious people, hardworking. “That gives me the hope for Nigeria.” The former Military President also revealed that the wound sustained in his right leg as a result of the piercing of a bullet during the Civil War has been with him for quite sometime and its frequent relapsing is an expected phenomenon.
“When I was the President of the country, I had to travel to Germany where the sickness was diagnosed as Radiculopathy, which has troubled me since and as such relapses,” he added.
It should be recalled that there were palpable fears in the homestead of Babangida in November 2011 over his failing health and in October 2014 when it was rumoured that he may not return to Nigeria alive as he spent almost two months in Germany over his failing health.

Muslim clerics disown Boko Haram..#BokoHaram #BringBackOurGirls #Nigeria #BetterNigeria #SaveNigeria

Islamic scholars in Nigeria have warned the Boko Haram sect to
desist from portraying themselves as Muslims, describing their action as
“mere propaganda aimed at giving Islam a bad name”.
The National Secretary of Jama atul Nasil Islam, Shiekh Kalith
Aliyu, and the National Chairman Council of Ulamah of Jama atul Izala wa
Ikamatus Sunna, Shiek Sani Yahaya Jingir, took this position on Tuesday in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
They described as “rubbish” the propaganda by the sect associating their devilish act with Islamic religion.
On his part, Aliyu, the National Secretary of JNI, opined: “Even
the Christians in the country have known that the group do not stand for
Islam, describing them as ‘Satanic’.
“Efforts by the group to create fear on the minds of average
Northerners has been uncovered and people will now fight the Boko Haram.
“Muslims in the region are instructed to join hands with their
Christian counterparts to resist whatever tactics adopted by Boko Haram
to create confusion in the country.
“They initially wanted to fool Nigerian Muslims when they
emphasized on our basic problems with Christians in the country but we
now know that they have a separate agenda to ridicule Islamic religion.”
On his part, Jingir, the National Chairman of JIBWIS, explained:
“The current awareness by both Muslims and Christians on their worthless
propaganda is now clear to all of us.”
The 21 Billion Naira Investment in Aggravated Bigotry, Religious Strife Provocation And Massive Slander. #Nigeria News

Deby of Chad where fake ceasefire that helped Boko Haram conquer Adamawa
and kill hundreds more was plotted
The person of the chief opposition candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari is center recipient of the invested targeted slander; the presidential aspirant has begun to be targeted in aggressive slander campaigns. Tolu Ogunlesi a world renowned author just picked up one such fake twitter handle created Friday and promoted by @PDPYF to paint Buhari as a religious fanatic.
The plan is to paint the opposition as risky and fanatical and to spin a web of false allegations of northerners being behind Boko Haram and the usual crap. An article in THISDAY on December 29th with a catchy caption, “How 30 Boko Haram insurgents overran 1000 troops in Mubi,” lured readers then slammed them with paragraphs of religious hate political propaganda.
The article written by a certain Senator Iroegbu made the nonsensical allegations that all the northern Emirs and leaders left were sympathetic to Boko Haram. It further stated that all the troops who abandoned posts and were being investigated by the army were northern Boko Haram sympathizers; though this is clearly mischievous and false as the names involved are from across Nigeria and do not portray this bigotry claim. After all it was Alex Badeh who announced the scam cease fire that cost Nigerians the most lives and territory this year.
Nigerians can expect hundreds of new accounts, texts, messages and unusual media articles in bought over editorials through the next 46 days, being sponsored with the available 21 billion naira and the donations of other Cabal like Dangote who did not yet donate at the Presidential fund raiser. A billion dollars may potentially be invested at the day’s end in seeking an electoral victory for Jonathan. The implication of this heavy investment in dividing Nigeria along religious and ethnic lines will well out live this presidential cycle.
Nigerians must realize that they are targeted for destruction. All hands must be on deck to reject these billion of naira promoted Wendell Simlin hate fabrications in the Nigerian and social media spaces.
The Boko Haram ploy failed as Nigerians now realize the role of accused Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the President’s right hand man and Jonathan’s Chadian counterpart at the heart of the Boko Haram insurgency. The fake cease fire that allowed Boko Haram regroup and capture and kill across the northeast exposed these conspirators against the Nigerian State.
The Presidency and Cabal who are afraid of change and hope for mere Nigerians is turning to a last desperate, well funded media scheme to gather together all fanatical anti-north and anti-Muslim sentiment and utilize this in attempt to retain power. Nigerians must rise above this. Our poverty unifies us; our religion and ethnicity must only be used in healthily competing for excellence and not as a weapon against us to keep us subjugated and oppressed by the unified Cabal.
Frankly, those involved and sponsoring the libel, hate propaganda and ethnic sentiment should be arrested and hung for this promotion of hate and deadly violence in Africa’s largest nation.

#EXCLUSIVE: Imminent Collapse of Civil Rule in #Nigeria – By Femi Falana
THE
dreaded Boko Haram sect has continued to unleash mayhem on defenceless
civilians including school children in the north east region. In the
last couple of months, the satanic society has annexed part of the
territory of the Republic of Nigeria.
In the circumstance, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the
Armed Forces, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has requested both chambers of the
National Assembly to ratify his decision to extend emergency rule in the
war torn Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states in accordance with section 305
of the Constitution. While the Senate has commenced deliberations on the
request the House of Representatives has been violently restrained by
the Police from considering such matter of urgent national significance.
Without any justification whatsoever, the Speaker of the House, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal, and his colleagues were teargased by the Police and prevented from gaining access to the chambers of the National Assembly last Thursday. In a bid to enter the chambers some of the legislators risked their lives by jumping the fence. In the process, they exposed themselves and the nation to undeserved ridicule.
Consequent on the break down of law and order instigated by the Police the National Assemby complex was closed down by the Senate President, General David Mark (rtd). Thus, the House was prevented from carrying out its legislative duties contrary to the order of the Federal High Court that the status quo ante bellum be maintained pending the determination of the suit filed by Honourable Tambuwal over the removal of his security aides.
Although the majority of the members foiled the coup to remove the Speaker the triumph of democracy in the National Assembly may be short lived. Since the ruling party cannot secure the endorsement of the required two thirds majority to remove Speaker Tambuwal the House will be factionalized while the minority will be given official recognition and security protection under a new leadership.
In justifying the barbaric invasion of the National Assembly complex by security forces the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, claimed that the police received intelligence report that hoodlums were going to break the law and order in the premises of the National Assembly. To the detriment of democracy the security forces decided to break the law when the hoodlums failed to turn up as arranged!
In a reckless display of partisanship the Police ensured that the Deputy Speaker of the House, Honourable Ihediora and a few other legislators were not subjected to any form of harassment.
Meanwhile, the Presidency and the Police have turned round to blame the Speaker and his colleagues for assaulting security operatives who were discharging their “lawful duties” at the National Assembly complex. According to the Police, Tambuwal and a motley crowd of his supporters “broke the cordon, assaulted the Police and evaded due process…”
Evasion of due process
The Police then warned “all political actors to respect constituted authority and due process and desist from the use of thugs to pursue their agenda.”
As security forces were used last week to disrupt the proceedings of the National Assembly President Jonathan was prevented by a former militant , Mr. Government Tompolo from attending the flag-off ceremony of the $16 billion EPZ project in Warri, Delta State.
Like the terrorists who have prevented the President from visiting Chibok, the militants declared him a persona non grata and forced him to stay away from Warri. As if that was not enough, the journalists who had assembled at the venue to report the event were abducted by a horde of armed goons. Even though the reporters regained their freedom after six hours of horrific physical and mental torture those who committed the grave criminal offences of kidnapping and threatening to overawe the President of the Republic have not been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force!
Thus, through sheer negligence and official impunity on the part of the Federal Government the country has become a failed State where security forces are competing with criminal gangs in the wanton infringements of the civil liberties of law abiding citizens. Like the terrorists who attack communities while ill-equipped soldiers vamoose, armed thugs are allowed to threaten the life of the President of the Republic while the Police without any reaction from the Police.
But unlike terrorists who abduct school girls in the night, militants kidnap journalists, lawyers and others during the day.
Unlike coup plotters who overthrow legitimate governments at night security forces collude with anti-democratic forces in broad daylight to remove elected leaders of legislative houses. Having been enriched by the State and allowed to acquire weapons without any license some ex-militants have set up armed gangs for the 2015 general election. It is common knowledge that many politicians have also established illegal violent groups of unemployed youths and cultists. Of recent, there were bloody clashes between armed thugs in several parts of the country.
In fact, policemen attached to some politicians have taken part in such clashes which marred some of the congresses of the APC and the PDP. The Sheik Ahmed Lemu Panel set up by President Jonathan to inquire into the post election violence which occurred in Akwa Ibom State and some northern states in April 2011 had recommended that over 850 armed thugs and hoodlums be prosecuted for culpable homicide, arson and allied offences.
Although the recommendation was accepted by the Federal Government the persons indicted in the report have not been prosecuted. In one of his media chats last year, President Jonathan rightly condemned the military invasion of Odi community in Bayelsa state in November 1999 by the Olusegun Obasanjo Administration.
Shortly thereafter, Chief Obasanjo accused President Jonathan of training snipers to attack his political opponents. Although the serious allegation was denied by the Presidency security forces are now joined by hounded militants and other nihilist groups to harrass voters during elections. It is an irony that the President of the Republic is being harassed and intimidated with weapons acquired under the pretext of executing multi-billion oil pipeline monitoring contracts by ex-militants!In the first and second republics security forces and thugs were used in the manipulation of elections and the violations of the rights of the Nigerian people. Such naked abuse of power by the Federal Government paved away for military interventions and the civil war.
In the third republic, the military dictators annulled a credible presidential election. The crisis that ensued terminated the expensive political transition programme and facilitated the return of a full-fledged military dictatorship with dire consequences.
However, it is hoped that the ongoing politicization of the security forces, the unprecedented wave of official corruption and the subversion of democratic institutions by the Federal Government will not lead to the eventual collapse of the fragile fourth Republic.
In spite of the threat of terrorist and other nihilist groups to balkanize the country I strongly believe that the rickety democratic process can still be salvaged by all the genuine democratic forces who led the Nigerian people to fight against unending military rule and who equally defeated the cabal that attempted to take advantage of President Umaru Yaradua’s ill-health to seize power from the then Acting President, Dr. Jonathan.
As time is not on our side, the forces of democracy ought to return to the trenches now to halt the imposion of fascism on the nation by the Jonathan Administration.

How Convicted soldiers were sent on suicidal mission – Falana reveals... #Nigeria News
Human
rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), on Thursday described as dubious,
the judgment of a General Martial Court in Abuja which on Wednesday
sentenced 54 soldiers to death for conspiracy to commit mutiny and
mutiny.
Falana said in a statement that the soldiers should never have been
convicted for mutiny for refusing to embark on a mission to fight the
well armed Boko Haram sect without being provided with the necessary
motivation and weapons.
Falana, who was the defence lawyer for the batch of 59 soldiers tried by the GMC, said the soldiers’ disobedience to the said order was a refusal to commit suicide.
The Brig.-Gen. Musa Yusuf-led court martial in its judgment convicted the soldiers for disobeying an order of their commanding officer on August 4, 2014.
Five of the 59 soldiers that were prosecuted were discharged and acquitted by the GMC.
The soldiers, most of whom joined the army in 2012 with ages ranging between 21 and 25 belonged to the Special 111 Battalion in Maiduguri.
Their commanding officer, Lt.-Col. Timothy Opurum, was said to have asked the soldiers to proceed on a mission to recapture Delwa, Balubulin and Damboa in Borno State from the Boko Haram terrorists, an order which the soldiers allegedly disobeyed.
Falana said the judgment was characterised by “gross miscarriage of justice” and the acquittal of five of the 59 accused soldiers was “to give the false impression that the dubious verdict was fair and just.”
He said the judgment would not stand, adding that he would explore all legal measures to stop the army authorities from giving effect to ‘the genocidal verdict’.
He said, “Convinced that soldiers who made a legitimate demand for equipment to fight the insurgents cannot, by any stretch of imagination, be properly convicted for mutiny we shall take all necessary legal measures to prevent the army authorities from giving effect to the genocidal verdict of the court-martial.”
Falana explained in his statement entitled, ‘Halt the genocidal elimination of Nigerian soldiers’, that allegiance taken by the soldiers was not a license to commit suicide.
He said, “We submit that the oath of allegiance taken by the accused soldiers is not a license to commit suicide.
“It is a solemn undertaking to defend the nation based on the expectation that the Federal Government would have complied with Section 217 of the Constitution on the mandatory requirement to equip the armed forces adequately.
“It is important to state that when equipment was made available on 18 August 2014, the accused soldiers fought gallantly.”
According to the lawyer, the Battalion only comprised 170 instead of 750 soldiers.
He explained, “The soldiers were in the SF 111 Battallion which has 174 instead of 750 soldiers.
“The soldiers in the Battalion were neither equipped nor motivated. They are young men whose ages range between 21 and 25. Most of them joined the army in 2012.
“With little or no training whatsoever they were deployed to fight the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
“The funds allocated for payment of the salaries and allowances of the soldiers and for purchase of arms and ammunition are usually diverted and cornered by corrupt military officers.
“Instead of bringing such unpatriotic officers to book the military authorities have engaged in the diversionary tactics of wasting the lives of innocent soldiers by sentencing them to death without any legal justification.”

Shocking Facts: A MUST READ BY EVERY #NIGERIA CITIZEN
Introduction
It is important to recognize as the cases against General Azubuike Ihejririka and in effect the head of the Nigerian government are again laid out, that the army Chief occupied his office and executed his duty illegally for the entire 4 years, as his appointment never approved by the Nigerian senate. He was thus sacked by President Jonathan under a court order in July of 2013 after Attorney Festus Keyamo’s court victory and the Attorney gave the gave the President of Nigeria a two week ultimatum to fire the illegally in office army Chief. This by itself is treasonable and acts in sabotage of the Nigerian State.
Baga massacre by the Nigerian
Firstly, the Baga massacre by the Nigerian army of April 2013 in which up to 200 civilians were burned by weapons of the Nigerian army in uncontrolled reaction to terror while assisting the genocidal mission of the terrorists, remains un-addressed. General Azubuike Ihejirika must be full held to account for the events of that fateful date which amount to crimes against humanity and terrorism of the people of Nigeria’s north. In line with this photo-publicized atrocity, the numerous violations reported by global human right groups which have included summarily executions of hundreds to thousands of Nigerians, of note the execution of suspected terrorists in mass graves after the Giwa barracks break; are all potential crimes against humanity and globally witnesses acts of terror that demand the immediate restriction of movement and investigation of the former and current heads of the army for terrorism and crimes against the people of north Nigeria.
SEE: HRW- “Horrific abuses in the north by the militant Islamist group Boko Haram and the Nigerian security forces’ heavy-handed response to this violence dominated Nigeria’s human rights landscape in 2013.” [http://www.hrw.org/world-report/2014/country-chapters/Nigeria]
A lack of military response for hours to days after alerts were clearly given by schools and villages of Boko Haram attacks; constitutes failure to protect the citizenry with means given by the Nigerian State and are potential acts of treason and punishable Crimes against the people resident in the nation’s north.

A lack of military response for hours to days after alerts were clearly given by schools and villages of Boko Haram attacks; constitutes failure to protect the citizenry with means given by the Nigerian State and are potential acts of treason and punishable Crimes against the people resident in the nation’s north.

"Jonathan lacks the political will stem corruption and fight Boko Haram" -Osita Okechukwu
“It is my candid view that our dear president wasted a golden opportunity by failing woefully to fulfil the promises he made four years ago. For instance on 13th May, 2010, he awarded a $23 billion contract for the construction of three greenfield refineries – one to be located at Bayelsa, Lagos and Kogi. Five years down the line, the money had grown wings and the refineries dead on arrival.

“Unfortunately, the man shall continue to be misunderstood because it suits some people to put him in that light so that they can continue to plunder the nation. Yes, he is a devout Muslim but he is far from being a religious fundamentalist. In my dealings with him, he never calls me on Saturdays because he understands I will be preparing for church the following day.

"They Are Political Prostitutes" - Soyinka blasts APC leaders For Inviting Obasanjo, Babangida And Others

Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, Sunday, lashed out angrily at the patron-shopping strategy of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, suggesting that it lacked moral focus, and had the feel of political prostitution.
In a short email message, the professor of literature said he was triggered by media reports that an “APC-led group …has been paying courtesy visits to former Heads of States” prompting him to ask if the party had thought it through what disaster this would mean for the nation.
Mr. Soyinka said the media report that stirred him to respond to the APC had these words: ”Tinubu added that the APC had resolved to rescue Nigeria, appealing to Obasanjo to lead the mission. We’re resolved and determined to rescue Nigeria. We want you as navigator”.
He then asked if the APC was truly comfortable that this represented its core principles.
“Would it be correct to state that their purpose is captured in the following Mission Statement?” he queried, claiming an impending political disaster, with grave humanitarian consequence.
“If this attribution is correct, may I urge you, as an urgent public service, to advise families to begin the stockpiling of life-belts for the guaranteed crash.
“Don’t forget to alert the coastguards – Ecowas, AU, UNO etc etc – to be on the alert for possible salvage operations.”
Mr. Soyinka then hinted at the moral opportunism of the patron-shopping strategy by asking: “By the way, If General Sani Abacha were alive today, would he also have been on the ship’s complement? As Captain perhaps?”
Some Nigeria’s pro-democracy activists had also in separate interviews with PREMIUM TIMES Saturday expressed outrage at the invitation handed the likes of former Presidents Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to join the APC, saying the party’s progressive posturing might after all be a fluke.
The activists argued that by desperately going in search of these Nigerians believed to have contributed to bringing the nation to its knees, the opposition party has shown that it is not different from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in ideology and that it is only interested in grabbing power.
The APC leaders have embarked on an elaborate membership recruitment with visits to some of the country’s past leaders, including former military president, Ibrahim Babangida; former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar; former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan’s letter to Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
His Excellency,
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR
Agbe L’Oba House, Quarry Road,
Ibara, Abeokuta.
RE: BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE
I wish to formally acknowledge your letter dated December 2, 2013 and other previous correspondence similar to it.
You will recall that all the letters were brought to me by hand. Although both of us discussed some of the issues in those letters, I had not, before now, seen the need for any formal reply since, to me, they contained advice from a former President to a serving President. Obviously, you felt differently because in your last letter, you complained about my not acknowledging or replying your previous letters.
It is with the greatest possible reluctance that I now write this reply. I am most uneasy about embarking on this unprecedented and unconventional form of open communication between me and a former leader of our country because I know that there are more acceptable and dignified means of doing so.
But I feel obliged to reply your letter for a number of reasons: one, you formally requested for a reply and not sending you one will be interpreted as ignoring a former President.
Secondly, Nigerians know the role you have played in my political life and given the unfortunate tone of your letter, clearly, the grapes have gone sour. Therefore, my side of the story also needs to be told.
The third reason why I must reply you in writing is that your letter is clearly a threat to national security as it may deliberately or inadvertently set the stage for subversion.
The fourth reason for this reply is that you raised very weighty issues, and since the letter has been made public, Nigerians are expressing legitimate concerns. A response from me therefore, becomes very necessary.

Security guards, 7 others arrested over robbery in Lagos
Two security guards with Ashaka Security
Company (ASCO) were among the nine armed robbery suspects arrested
while allegedly attempting to break into a warehouse on Oba Akran Way,
Ikeja, Lagos.
The suspects identified as Aliyu Salisu,
22, and Abubakar Audu, allegedly connived with a seven-man armed
robbery gang led by one Olanrewaju to carte away drugs worth millions of
naira.
The suspects were alleged to have put sleeping pills in parks of drinks they gave to some of the colleagues on duty before the operation started.
One of the suspects, who identified himself as Ejiki Ehirim, said he bought M and B 76 and Tarazo tablets from the gang last year at N400,000
“I was approached by Olanrewaju of their intention to rob May and Baker, but I warned him against it because I felt it was a set up on the part of one of the security guards. I was surprised when they came to my shop with policemen to arrest me, because I advised them against it,” he said.
Parading the suspects before journalists yesterday at the command’s headquarters, Ikeja, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ngozi Braide said they were arrested based on an intelligence report received from the company’s security department. She added that two trucks loaded with stolen drugs were recovered from the suspects.

‘Nigeria has 1 pharmacist to 12,000 citizens’
The Nigerian Association of Hospital and
Administrative Pharmacists (NAHAP) has said there are about 17,600
registered pharmacists in the country, giving a ratio of 1 pharmacist to
12,000 Nigerians.
Chairman of association, Pharm. Yakubu
Maji-Isah, who made the revelation at the recently held 15th Annual
Scientific Conference of the body, said the figure contrast sharply with
the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendation of 1 pharmacist to
2,000 people.
He called on regulatory bodies to synergize towards open drug markets through enforcement of ban on sale of drugs in the open, motor parks and buses as such drugs may be poisonous and injurious to the unsuspecting public.
Dr John Alfa, Director Pharmaceutical Services at the National Assembly, Abuja who presented a keynote address at the occasion, called for adequate budgetary provision as well as training and retraining for pharmacists in Nigeria adding that the safety of medicine is concerned with the risk benefit ratio which is supposed to be low.
He said the conference assessed the role of the pharmacist because quality of medicine is essential as any adulterated drug is considered not safe but toxic to the patient.
In her remarks, Dr. Asuelinmen Celina, said the theme of the conference “The Role of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists in Providing Safe Medicines for Nigerians” is apt considering the challenges of ensuring that safe, efficacious and cost effective drugs are delivered to Nigerians.

She's a prostitute and the Pastor picked her for Sex
A preacher with an evangelical church in Kenya’s Nakuru County was shocked when a prostitute he picked up for sex told him she was a member of his congregation.
The preacher, 56, picked the woman along Club Road, Nakuru at around midnight last Friday before driving off with her in his car.
The preacher, who was disgraced in 2000 after his contact with someone’s wife was exposed, picked her up seeking a date, a common euphemism among prostitutes for sexual contacts.
“For sex, I mean that’s why he picked me, that’s what I do, I’m a prostitute,” she said.
The woman said after they ‘transacted business’ in his posh car she revealed to him that she was a member of his church and he was shaken and pleaded with her not to expose him to other members of the church.
The lady of the night said she got an extra Sh20,000 up from the Sh500 so as to keep her mouth shut.
In 2000, the preacher was disgraced after he was found in a compromising position with the wife of a member of his congregation.
The incident then led to a walkout by some pastors in his church. The prostitute said the preacher was a regular customer and normally conducts the ‘business’ in his car.

France to give 'clear evidence' Syria regime behind attack
From AFP;

France was set Monday to provide what it says is clear evidence that the Syrian regime was behind a devastating chemical attack, as Western leaders bid to overcome widespread scepticism to military action.
With US President Barack Obama also lobbying Congress to back strikes, the Syrian regime said it remained on alert for a possible attack, urging the United Nations to "prevent any aggression" against it.
NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen said he was personally convinced the chemical attack had taken place and that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime was responsible.
He called for a response that would "send a very clear message" against the use of chemical weapons, but said any military action should be "very short, sharp (and) tailored".
French government sources said evidence proving the regime's involvement in the attack would be provided to top lawmakers at a meeting with Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault at 1500 GMT.

iPhone 5C packaging revealed. (LEAKED PHOTOS)
Leaked images published last week and over the weekend may for the first time reveal the retail packaging in which Apple’s upcoming mid-range iPhone 5C
will launch. The images come from a variety of sources, including
well-known insider C Technology, who has previously published a number
of photos showing various unreleased Apple parts and devices that are
believed to be authentic. The packaging will apparently be quite similar
to Apple’s iPod touch boxes, which feature a transparent plastic lid
that allows consumers to see which color device is packed inside the
box; like the iPod touch, Apple’s new iPhone 5C will reportedly be
available in a variety of colors when it launches later this month.
Earlier reports suggest the iPhone 5C will debut alongside the flagship iPhone 5S during a press conference next week on September 10th ahead of the handsets’ launch on September 20th. Several leaked photos of the purported iPhone 5C packaging follow below. See pics after the cut...

Now, that she's gone out of the house, Beverly Osu who had what some of you may call "fun" with the south african rep Angelo Collins. She's gone through so many controversies and even, some Nigerians think they'll never forgive her. Well, who are you not to forgive the creation of God when he decides to forgive them? Ok, enough, i am not a fan of hers but i sincerely do respect her feelings. Look at what Beverly has to say; “I don’t feel happy about it (the
embarrassment) because this was the first time I represented the country
in any continental competition. But the fact remains that if you didn’t
go for it, you wouldn’t know how it’s in the House. I wasn’t there with
my cell phone to be able to communicate with the outside world. I was
just there alone. I’m sorry for embarrassing my country. I didn’t do it
intentionally. My participation in the show was not to embarrass my
country. I am a proud Nigerian.” Okay Nigerians, you have heard from
her. So please, forget and forgive her. She is still your sister.
Arsenal ready to complete Mesut Ozil transfer either as a permanent deal or on loan

Ozil, his fellow Real midfielder Angel Di Maria and young Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler are all in the Gunners' sights as they look to launch a deadline day spending spree.
Arsenal are understood to be ready to sign Ozil either permanently or, because the German international has reservations about leaving Real, on a season-long loan.
Mirror Sport understands Arsenal
are due to hold further discussions on Monday and a medical has been
booked, should it be needed.
Wenger has also considered making one last move for Luis Suarez, although Liverpool have made it clear they do not want to sell.Arsenal have also prepared a double swoop on Palermo for forward Abel Hernandez and keeper Emiliano Viviano, and an enquiry for Chelsea striker Demba Ba has also been made.
MirrorSport understands Viviano is in London and will undergo a medical on Monday morning.
But the Londoners could face competition from Manchester United for Ozil.
Paris Saint-Germain are also in the frame but the Germany midfielder would prefer a move to England.
Arsenal believe Di Maria may be the most likely transfer to happen, as Schalke are demanding more than £40m for Draxler.
Wenger, whose only signings have been free transfers this summer, said: "You know I am always confident, and I delivered very little until now.
"I am confident, yes. I am ready to pay what we can afford. Even if it is a bit over the market as long as it is not crazy. I am not against spending.

Aspirant rejects North Central’s zoning
An aspirant for the post of national
youth leader in Saturday’s PDP special national convention, Alhaji
Mohammed Mariam Alhassan, has disagreed with the position of the North
Central executive committee of the party to retain the zoning principle
it adopted at the 2012 convention.
Alhassan in a letter addressed to the
PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, accused the North Central
executive committee of perpetrating “constitutional aberration against
the principles of the party” by taking that decision.
PDP executive committee for the North Central zone directed its zonal delegates to vote in line with the zoning arrangement adopted in the 2012 convention and directed delegates to vote for persons endorsed by the state which got the slot.
Alhassan explained that 2012 national convention of the party which produced the national working committee members has been faulted by INEC because of the unconstitutional nature of the zoning explaining that he was schemed out in the process.

‘Black Jesus’ Cult Leader Hacked To Death
An infamous cult leader known as "Black Jesus", who was suspected of
cannibalism, has been chopped to death in a remote Papua New Guinea
village, reports said.
Steven Tari, a convicted Molester, had been on the run since escaping from a prison in Madang in the Pacific nation's east during a mass break-out with 48 others in March this year.
Sylvester Kalaut, the Madang police chief, said on Friday that Tari and one of his followers were killed at a village about 20km outside Madang on Thursday as they were attacking a young woman.
"He is now dead and this could be the fate of the others who are also on the run from authorities and I am warning and strongly urging those escapees to surrender themselves to authorities," Kalaut told the PNG Post-Courier.
Tari, a failed Lutheran pastor who was widely known as Black Jesus, was found guilty in 2010 of Molesting girls who belonged to his Christian-based sect and sentenced to up to 10 years.
At the time, he had thousands of village followers, including a core of armed warriors to protect him, in what is commonly referred to in PNG as a "cargo cult".
As part of his "culture ministry", he preached that young girls were to be "married" to him as it was God's prophecy.

Lawmakers suspect forgery of Suntai letter, He can't rule says Assembly
The Taraba State House of Assembly yesterday asked ailing Governor
Danbaba Suntai to return to hospital as he was still too sick to govern,
a day after the lawmakers were allowed to see him for the first time
since his return from the United States on Sunday.
In a statement signed by 16 of the 24 members of the House, the lawmakers declared that Acting Governor Garba Umar remained in charge, and cast doubt on if Suntai did write the letter sent to them in his name on Monday.
“The leadership of the assembly made several efforts to see the governor since his arrival, but till Wednesday they were not allowed access to him. The ailing governor spoke in a manner that brought more doubt to his letter purportedly transmitted to the speaker,” the statement said.
“In view of the above, we, the undersigned members of the state assembly unanimously resolved at our meeting that the Deputy Governor, upon whom power was earlier transmitted to by the state Assembly, still remain the acting Governor of Taraba.
“He will continue to act in that regards until such a time the governor is capable of administering the state.”
Lawmakers who signed the statement include Speaker Haruna Tsokwa, Deputy Speaker Tanko Maikarfi, Chief Whip Mohammed Gwampo, Deputy Majority Leader Josiah Kente, Deputy Chief Whip Mohammed Umar, Minority Leader Ibrahim Imam and Minority Whip Yahya AbdulRahman.
Others are Rashida Abdullahi, Aminu Umar, Mr Iratsi Daki, Emmanuel Dame, John Bonzena, Dr Abubakar Jugulde, Abdulkarim Mohammed, Edward Baraya and Hamman Adamu Abdullahi.
Until his return on Sunday, Suntai had been in Germany and in the US treating injuries sustained in the crash of a plane he was piloting near Yola, Adamawa State, on October 25 last year.
Though his associates claim he has fully recovered, events since his return indicate the contrary. He had to be helped to deplane on Sunday in Abuja and Jalingo, and remained indoors since. He was shown briefly on state television Wednesday evening, making a laborious speech which was barely audible.
When a letter was delivered to the State House of Assembly on Monday, purportedly written by Suntai, saying he was back and would take charge, the lawmakers said Tuesday he must first appear before them to convince them he was fit enough.
Instead of accepting the invitation, Suntai’s spokesman issued a statement on Wednesday, saying the governor had dissolved the state executive council and appointed a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) as well as a new Chief of Staff.

Former Minister, Nwabueze to Nigeria's President Jonathan: Don’t run for second term

Constitutional
lawyer and former Minister of Education Professor Ben Nwabueze has
advised President Goodluck Jonathan not to seek a re-election in 2015.
Nwabueze, who led a pressure group, The
Patriots, to a meeting with the president yesterday, later told State
House correspondents that Jonathan had better concentrate on national
transformation rather than get involved in election campaigns.
He said Jonathan would undermine his authority to lead Nigeria for national transformation should he seek a fresh term in 2015.
Nwabueze, who however affirmed the president’s eligibility to seek a re-election, said he would become an instant hero if he restricts himself to national transformation and abandon his perceived second term ambition.
“I still believe that the problem of this country is national transformation. You can’t combine national transformation with contesting election. The two are so different because once you get involved in election campaigns, you undermine your authority to lead the nation for national transformation, and I said if I were the president of Nigeria, I would restrict myself to serving the nation, transforming the country in creating a new Nigeria, in creating a new society,” he said.
Nwabueze explained that his delegation told Jonathan that the only way to national transformation is through a national conference of all ethnic nationalities that would produce the needed people’s constitution whose source of authority derives directly from the people.
In a memorandum presented to Jonathan, Nwabueze said the president’s transformation agenda ought to be expanded in scope to cover other aspects of economic affairs besides the enhancement of economic growth and development which it focuses on.
“Nigeria is a wobbly state in part because it stands on a very weak foundation, which creates a necessity to transform it. The foundation of a polity or state, that is to say, its super-structure, is its constitution. A polity or state rests on a very weak foundation if the source of authority of its constitution, as the supreme law of the land, is not the people directly, acting in a cons-tituent assembly (or a national conference) and a referendum; that is what characterizes a constitution as a democratic one, otherwise called a Peoples’ Constitution”, he said.
Responding, Jonathan said his administration had no objection to Nigerians coming together to discuss how they would continue to live together in peace and unity, adding that ordinarily such an issue of should not be out of place.
According to him, there has been constant discussion within government on how to create an acceptable and workable platform for a national dialogue that will reinforce the ties that bind the country’s many ethnic nationalities and ensure that Nigeria’s immense diversity continues to be a source of strength and greatness.

Nigeria: Governor Suntai fires cabinet, meets speaker

.Ag gov says some people trying to foment trouble
The political situation in Taraba State
remained dicey yesterday as officials held series of meetings to break
the impasse created by the return of Governor Danbaba Suntai from a
foreign medical trip on Sunday.
Suntai has not been seen in public since his return, after spending 10 months in Germany and the United States to treat injuries sustained in a plane crash in October last year.
On Tuesday, the State House of Assembly expressed doubt on if he was fit enough to take charge from Acting Governor Garba Umar, and therefore summoned him to brief lawmakers as a condition for allowing him to resume work.
But events took a swift turn yesterday, beginning with the announcement by the governor’s office of the dissolution of the state executive council, moments before the council was scheduled to hold a weekly meeting with the acting governor.
Suntai’s spokesman Sylvanus Giwa, who announced the sack of the cabinet, said also a new secretary to the state government and a chief of staff in the Government House were appointed.
He said the cabinet dissolution affects all commissioners and special advisers but not special assistants.
On whether Suntai was fit enough to administer the state, Giwa responded in the affirmative.
Soon after this, the acting governor’s office held a news conference where it said some people were trying to foment trouble in the state.
Umar’s spokesman Kefas Sule, who addressed journalists on behalf of the acting governor, said Umar and other major political stakeholders were working to resolve the impasse.
He said that the state executive council was worried that some individuals were bent on fomenting trouble in the state, and urged the people to continue with their normal activities.
Following the announcement of the dissolution of the cabinet, journalists gathered at the State House of Assembly to see if lawmakers would take stand on the latest developments.
The House leadership promised to brief reporters on their position. But many hours after, deputy majority leader Josiah Sabo Kente informed journalists at about 8pm that there would be no further briefing until today.
