‘Kidnapper’ nabbed in Ekiti

A 25-year old man, Tosin Ajayi, was almost lynched in Ado-Ekiti yesterday by youths over an allegation that he attempted to kidnap a 14-year-old boy, Benjamin Okizi.
Tosin, a resident of No 2, Idemo Street, Ado Ekiti and a friend of his now at large were said to have accosted the victim along Adebayo Street while on an errand by his parents.
The suspect and his friend were said to have taken Benjamin to an uncompleted building in the area, searched and dispossessed him of the N470.
It was gathered that when some vigilant people around the area accosted the suspects, they alleged that Benjamin stole their phone and that they were trying to retrieve it from him.
“We were however curious when the suspects put the boy on an Okada and said they were taking him to the police headquarters for interrogation,” a witness said.
Our correspondent reports that the scene attracted a crowd, mainly commercial motorcyclists who were armed with used tyres threatening to set the suspect ablaze, and that in the ensuing melee, one of the suspects escaped.
Narrating the incident  to newsmen at the premises of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the mother of the victim, Mrs Racheal Okizi, said she sent Benjamin to attend a meeting of engine oil sellers at about 9am at Ori Apata Area, and that he was accosted while on his way home by the duo.
Mrs Okizi alleged that the suspects took her son into an uncompleted building, where they  threatened to kill him if he refused to surrender all the money he had on him.
She added, “My son explained to me that while on his way home that the man and his friend stopped him in front of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital and started asking him all sorts of question.
