The X Factor judge tried deflecting the issue with a quip at a Television Critics Association event, joking when asked about it, "I haven't read the newspapers."
Then he commented, briefly: "Unfortunately at this moment I have to keep it private."
"There are a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right, but I really have to be sensitive because there's a lot of people's feelings involved here.”
Meanwhile, Lauren Silverman and her husband Andrew spoke out for the first time since the news broke that she is pregnant with Cowell's baby:
“My top priority is protecting my 7-year-old son while working to resolve all outstanding issues with my wife," Andrew Silverman said in a statement.
"Hopefully people can respect the interest of our child during this process."
In a separate statement, Lauren said: "I am committed to sorting things out with Andrew as amicably as possible to ensure the well-being of our son."
"I would hope for some space and privacy in order to work through this."
Andrew Silverman, a friend of Cowell's, has reportedly filed divorce papers in New York listing "adultery" as the reason for the demise of his marriage.
It's unclear when the relationship began, but Lauren allegedly blindsided Simon Cowell with the pregnancy news along with the rest of the world.
